My great-grandfather invented the Apple vending machine. I've been trying to locate one for myself. I'm really looking forward to tracking one down for myself. (Nostalgia and all that.)

We had one at Bethel Senior High School in Graham, Washington State. It was right outside the entrance to the library and I swear, every single apple that I bought, was fresh and so very crisp! Ours was a simple red wooden box with the metal contraptions that vended the apples. This was 1985 and cost a quarter each. Really miss those days.

I was in elementary school, the then-Wheeler Road School, in Central Islip, Long Island from about 1962-1968.

The entire time there we had a refrigerated fruit vending machine with apples, oranges and sometimes pears. I think it was a nickel. Ours did not look the one in your photo, however.

I do recall the fruit being wonderfully chilled and crispy fresh.

Our Jr High/Middle School in Galion, Ohio had one of these contraptions in our basement near the cafeteria as well many years ago. It didn't quite resemble the one in the picture, as it was more vertical than horizontal. But the same basic idea.

If memory serves me correct it was red, and we nicknamed it " Lucky the one armed bandit." Sometimes the apples were good and sometimes they sucked.

I also enjoyed the apple vending machine that was located down the hall from our gymnasium in Vernon Secondary School, in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada.

It was a great idea and an excellent alternative to chips, candy bars, etc.

I am not sure...But I think that Sun Rype/Kelowna, BC, was the owner of the machine. It was fairly modern looking as I recall.

in the 1988-1990 era, my junior high school in Canandaigua, NY had an apple vending machine near the cafeteria. I believe the apples cost a dime. The machine was very old, fully metal, with fading paint. It was surprising to us kids that this ancient thing still worked, but it did.
