VMC 3D-33

The VMC 3D-33 is nearly the same machine as the VMC 33. One minor difference being the one-piece coin door on the 3D-33 where the 33 has a two-piece door. Also, the “empty” decal changed from white to yellow. The VMC 33 was designed to increase the vending capacity that was available on the VMC Dual 27. The same round drum design was used, but the center was widened to accommodate 6 additional bottles. The VMC 3D-33 was produced in the mid-1950s. It vends 33 bottles and pre-cools 27. This photo is of a VMC 3D-33 Coca-Cola machine that we restored.

I have a machine very simlar machine to this and was wondering what a restoration of this machine would cost, and what would it be worth? Can you help me? The machine is in above average condition. Thank You.

We aren’t in the restoration business anymore, so we don’t know the price of having a restoration done. If you keep an eye on Ebay or Craig’s List, your item is sure to be listed at some point. That may give you a rough idea of it’s value but keep in mind prices vary greatly depending on condition. If anyone can help with a value of this item please comment.

I have one of these that is identical save for the paint and label scheme. Mine is all red with Coca Cola in White and there is a large 10 cents painted over the top of the coin slot. The example pictured is nicely restored, but I rather like mine in its slightly shabby original condition. It still works wonderfully. BTW the pictured machine is missing the box that catches the bottle caps.

These machines are not among the most valuable but I have seen restored examples in the $3-4k range and original condition ones for $750 +. There is an un-restored one that looks identical to mine, in slightly better condition, currently for sale on ebay for $2995. In my experience this is well outside the average.

    Try fun-tronicsllc.com
They have a great variety of parts for machines, and might be able to help with the value. Otherwise, keep checking ebay and Craig’s List, sometimes they pop up there.

I’m trying to pick open the key lock on a VMC-33
Can you tell me if the key turns clockwise or counterclockwise to unlock?

  • 7 vintagevending // Nov 13, 2009 at 11:32 am

Usually it turns clockwise, but it all depends on the way the lock was installed. You can also drill the lock, turn it with a flat head screwdriver to open it, remove the lock, and replace it.

Are the bottles for the VMC33 still available to stock my machine?

  • 9 Keith // Nov 25, 2009 at 11:18 am

The only bottle that might fit are the small glass Coke bottles. 6.5 or 7 oz. , not sure what Coke is making now. However they recently changed the shape of that small bottle and they usually will not work on any old single selection Coke machine. I can’t say for sure about the 33 so you will just have to buy a six pack and try them out. Please let us know how you make out.

I have the VMC3D-33 and it still works with the Coke 8oz bottles that are still available in stores.

  • 11 Steve Burgh // Feb 21, 2010 at 12:34 pm

Need a key to open a vendo 33 coke machine. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time and consideration.

  • 12 vintagevending // Feb 22, 2010 at 9:08 am

For lost keys, you can either try to purchase a key that matches the lock number on your machine, or you can replace the lock mechanism. This requires drilling the lock, turning it with a flat head screwdriver to open it, removing the lock, and replacing it.

I have a Vendorlator 33 machine and I also have 25 cases of the original heavy green glass returnable bottles with about 8 cases filled with “Classic Coke”. I am actually interested in selling some of my bottles since I have too many. You might still be able to take these to a local bottler (I took mine to Sacramento, CA) to have them cleaned and refilled. – contact me if you are interested

I have an unrestored Coke VMC 33 for sale.
It cooled last time it was plugged in MANY years ago, but it does need full restoration.
If you email me, I’ll send photos.

  • 21 Richard // Mar 23, 2011 at 7:41 pm

One of the messages here says that to get into a VMC 33 without a key you drill out the lock, use a flat blade screwdriver to open it and then replace the lock. I think this model has the two arms on the lock–one that goes up, one goes down. Will drilling out the lock damage the arms?

  • 22 Mark L // Apr 3, 2011 at 11:02 pm

Michael: I am always interested in purchasing this type of Coke machine. Feel free to send pics and what you feel it is worth to you. metalman304@aol.com

  • 26 Wes Hobbs // Jan 15, 2012 at 6:51 pm

Seeing if anybody out there is still answering this web site. Not too recent. It’s now 2012. Do Vendorlator 33’s vend today’s coke bottles available in stores? Also, is there a beer bottle that fits as well?

    Thanks, Wes

  • 27 vintagevending // Jan 17, 2012 at 9:39 am

    Hi Wes,
To my knowledge, no it will not vend the new bottles and have no idea about beer bottles. There are still some local bottlers using the old style bottle. You may want to talk to your area bottling company.

I recently completed an “amateur” restoration of my 3D-33 and it works great with 8 oz glass coke or with Q COLA, Q ginger ale which are also 8 oz glass and are organic made by a company in Brooklyn NY; Whole foods also has an 8 oz organic glass cola that works well.
