Westinghouse Coca-Cola Ice Chest

The Westinghouse Half Junior was a countertop ice chest produced from the late 30’s to the early forties. The cooler had embossing on the front and back, as well as the sides. It was designed to hold 24 bottles of Coca-Cola and 20 pounds of ice. These little countertop coolers are rare, although we did own two at one time and restored at least one. You can find them with built-in recessed handles or with no handles at all.

I was curious about a cooler I’ve run across.
It is very much like this one except the dimensions are closer to the the ‘full’ junior, but without the legs and lower panels.
It measures c. 25 1/2 x 17 and stands (or sits on the counter) about 18 inches high. There is no indication that it was a full junior that has been cut down and the opener is on the side, not the front like a full junior. The opener is attached in pre-drilled, threaded holes so appears to have always been there.
It has had some handles fitted to it that do not appear to be original, but the rest is 100% Coke.
Do you have any information about a larger ‘half’ junior?

my question is the same as Steve Suttle. Could you please tell me what you told him.

I bought a similar cooler yesterday at the chicagoland show, the dealer told me it was a junior cut down but the catcher is on the side and it has rolled edges on the bottom. I didn’t agree with the dealers opinion and I think it is a larger version of the half junior that has not been cataloged at this time. It may have been a less common junior but very interesting and collectable none the less.

The Westinghouse JR electric coolers did come with the openers on the side. Of course I could be wrong but as far as I know there has never been a counter top “full size” JR. Every version I have ever seen was just a cut down JR or Jr electric cooler. ( some better than others )

I purchased two original Westinghouse half Juniors from Vintage vending about 10 years ago in New Hampshire They are one of the neatest looking coolers and one of the rarest.. One has side handles and the second does not.

I have a Westinghouse Half Jr. that has big heavy legs on the bottom. This not a Jr. that has been cut down. I have asked and searched and no one has ever seen one like it before. It is definitely factory made.

Hey all. I have a half junior in original condition with recessed side handles. The paint is a little oxidized. Any ideas out there of its value?

I also have this cooler. It was my grandfathers. Great condition. I can’t find out what it is worth. Could anyone help with this? I have been trying for years. Thanks
