Westinghouse WD-5 Soda Cooler

Pictured here is a Westinghouse WD-5 machine that we restored years ago. The Westinghouse WD-5 Soda Cooler was a popular self-service soda machine because of its compact size. It needed a minimum amount of floor space but still had adequate storage space. It holds up to 120 bottles, which is a lot, considering the cooler’s size. The bottles position on their sides inside the cooler, rather than standing upright. The cooler lid lifts and the bottles are simply removed from the top of the machine.

The WD-5 is a dry cooler, which means it cools with cool air rather than with water or ice. This cooler is embossed on all four sides with the Coca-Cola logo. The WD-5 was manufactured from the late 1940s to late 1950s.

Dimensions: 28 1/2”D x 28 5/8”W x 36 3/8”H

Manufactured by:
Westinghouse Electric Corp.
Monroeville, PA

This item is not for sale.

  • 4 vintagevending // Jul 28, 2010 at 7:32 am

Not sure of its value. We are not appraisers. We suggest keeping an eye on eBay to see if one turns up there.
That will give you an idea of current market value

We have a Corneluis refrigerated vintage chest with reference k72 model number 18 8852 044 similar to the Westinghouse. Looks like it held bottles and or cans and the price was 20 cents. We are having trouble finding out the worth or any type of Cornelius item that looks like it. Any info or ideas? Thanx.

I have a WD-5 westinghouse coke cooler. I am looking for a service manual if anyone knows where to obtain one I would appreciate it. Also mine has 2 fans in it but the upper fan never shuts off. I am wondering if it is a thermostat problem or if it just needs the cooling to be recharged. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • 26 vintagevending // Jul 11, 2012 at 9:06 am

You can get an idea of how much these are going for by looking at online auction sites or talking to other collectors. We do not give appraisals or estimates of market values for machines. Price is always a variable, depending on the timing in regard to the economy and what buyers are looking for.
